Our snow day started out with breakfast in front of the tv. She requested her favorite: waffle with peanut butter (yummy melty goodness - she got that from me) and turkey sausages. Helaina's breakfast of champions.
We had a very busy day. We played board games, read library books, watched some movies, did some crafts. The weather got better as the morning went on so we met Jim for lunch then went to the library for more books and movies. After we got home it was beauty salon time. I braided her hair - 9 braids in all. We were going for the Bo Derek "10" look. She was thrilled.
Moved from hair styling right into nails, complete with 3 different colors of polish with polka dots and smiley faces.
Bedtime brought the unbraiding of the hair and Helaina was, well, you can see by her glowing face, very happy with the wavy hair.
Helaina loves school so much and we love all the schoolwork papers she brings home daily (and there are LOTS). A recent school project asked for each child to donate a small amount of money to a fund that would be sent to Hurricaine Sandy victims, and to write a note telling how they raised the money. Helaina sent in $5 and wrote a note saying it was money she got for wearing her headgear to bed every night. Her teacher must have liked the note because she had her re-write it, draw a (quick!)picture and sent it to the principal. Helaina's note was selected and published in the school newspaper along with others - all displayed on the page above. Too funny. Looks like she's got a mustache, but it's the headgear on her face along with a butterfly and a package of rubber bands.
Using her spelling words to write sentences. Her printing and spelling is improving.
They've been doing a unit in Sciense on ants and bees. Science is Helaina's favorite subject and she remembers what she learns. I'm always impressed with what she comes home and tells us.
Next post, our night out with DJ Lance Rock and his pals. What a blast!
